JohnsByrne partnered with KOBO Candles, a growing brand of pure soy-based candles, on the development of their folding carton packaging refresh.
Our Approach
- Our structural design team collaborated with KOBO on the updated package design including an extended flap for the seed packets
- The cartons are produced on 24pt FSC-certified uncoated paperboard, each package is designed to decompose naturally when planted with the seed packets
- Soy vegetable-based inks were selected for environmental compatibility and ink vibrancy on uncoated substrates

The KOBO “Plant the Box” packaging delivers a multi-sensory, mission-aligned unboxing experience. By merging elevated design with a compostable, plantable structure, it turns packaging into a vehicle for storytelling, interaction, and environmental action.
